Chapter 01

Not who you raised.

People wearing jeans, IndigoTheory Chapter 01

A first chapter for people who stopped asking permission. Denim that doesn't explain itself, worn by people who don't either.

The process

From cotton to denim.

How a pair of jeans comes together, from the field to the finish.

  1. An open cotton boll

    Step 1: Cotton

It starts in the field, as raw cotton.

  2. Freshly indigo-dyed cloth hanging over a dye vat

    Step 2: Indigo

The yarn is dyed in indigo, dip after dip.

  3. Close-up of a weaving loom

    Step 3: Weaving

Woven on a loom into a sturdy twill.

  4. Hands guiding denim through a sewing machine

    Step 4: Cut & sewn

Cut to pattern and sewn, seam by seam.

  5. Industrial machines on a denim washing floor

    Step 5: Washing

Washed to soften the cloth and set the fade.

Fabric, construction and care notes for each design are listed on its product page.

Your denim. Your theory.
